RAT & BOA — Selma Dress

The buckle is doing most of the talking.

RAT & BOA’s Selma begins with the little black dress and then pulls it slightly out of order. Soft black viscose jersey is cut close to the body, while a sweep of fabric crosses the strapless neckline before being caught inside an oversized silver-tone buckle. What might otherwise have been a particularly restrained bandeau mini is consequently left with a long, loose end.

The construction underneath is rather more disciplined. An internal mesh layer and silicone tape support the strapless neckline, while the non-sheer jersey contours the body before finishing at mini length. The buckle effectively does the accessorising for it: part fastening, part ornament and disproportionately large enough to prevent the dress from becoming entirely sensible.

Designed for a close, body-contouring fit with fluid draping across the bust. The strapless neckline is supported internally with a mesh layer and silicone tape, while the soft viscose jersey allows the draping to fall naturally around the oversized buckle.
