RAT & BOA’s Athena plays with what velvet leaves behind. Cut from lilac devoré, its burnished pattern moves across a lighter ground, creating shifts between opacity and translucence as the fabric falls over the body.

The bias-cut silhouette is suspended from slender adjustable straps and drops into a low, softly collapsed cowl neckline. At the back, a keyhole opening is gathered with delicate self-ties, leaving the otherwise fluid column interrupted by little more than skin. A lining tempers the semi-sheer fabrication without obscuring the movement of the devoré itself. The silk-viscose construction gives the surface its characteristically fluid handle and velvet relief.

Some things are better partially erased.

• Athena is cut on the bias for a fluid, body-skimming fit through the bust, waist and hips. The dropped cowl neckline drapes loosely across the chest, while adjustable shoulder straps allow the neckline and overall drop to be fine-tuned. The floor-length skirt falls fluidly from the body rather than holding a structured shape.
