The Procuress —

Who Is
She?

Purveyor. Scholar. Procurer.

She has spent a great deal of time thinking about objects—and even longer wanting them.

She has always had an eye for things.

A keeper of objects, stories, and the occasional secret.

Beauty warrants investigation.

She has never been especially good at leaving a nice thing behind.

She knows that the smallest details often tell you the most.

I. Who She Actually Is

The Procuress began, as these things often do, with an eye for nice things.

For more than seven years, she worked amongst designer and luxury goods at one of Canada’s leading luxury department stores. What began as an affection became a kind of education: in construction and craftsmanship, in materials and fit, and in the small details that distinguish the exceptional from the merely expensive.

At roughly the same time, she pursued a doctorate in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Toronto, where craftsmanship, materiality, production, artisanship, value, and the lives of objects became matters of rather serious study.

Somewhere between the sales floor and the field—between practice and theory, knowing what something is and wondering what it means—The Procuress emerged.

Today, The Procuress draws upon her years of experience, study, cultivated relationships, and a particularly persistent eye to assemble The Collection.

Her taste is well founded, her curiosities numerous, and she has never been especially good at leaving a nice thing behind.

Fortunately, she does not have to keep everything she finds.

The rest, she procures.

Questions are always welcome. So are requests, rumours of difficult-to-find objects, and conversations about nice things.

Photographed rarely, and never willingly.

II. Her Sensibility

The Educated Eye

Years spent amongst designer goods have taught her to notice construction, material, proportion, and detail.

Material Curiosity

She wants to know how things are made, who makes them, and why some objects come to matter.

Relentless Curiosity

Every acquisition begins with looking closely—and asking too many questions.

A Taste for Nice Things

Beauty needn’t justify itself entirely. Sometimes the want is reason enough.

The Particular Eye

She does not seek everything. Only the things worth noticing.
